Chic Teak garden furniture is made from carefully selected Grade A heartwood teak, the densest, most oil-rich part of the tree. Every piece is delivered fully assembled by our own team, and built to stand outside through British winters for decades, without oil, sealant or varnish. We use no stains or colouring treatments to disguise its natural appearance.
Not all Grade A teak is the same. Furniture from other suppliers can still carry knots and blemishes. Ours doesn't. The result is a clean, even grain that becomes the focal point of any terrace or garden, and silvers gracefully with age.

Over Half a Century Outside and Never a Drop of Oil
Our founder, Robert Bowden, bought his first teak bench over half a century ago. It remains in loyal service outside our Basingstoke showroom and has never seen a drop of furniture oil.
That bench is the argument for our finest Grade A heartwood teak – a piece that has stood outside through decades of British winters and is still in daily use.
Everything we craft nowadays is inspired by that one bench. Chic Teak has been trading since 1997 and remains run by the same family, from the same corner of Hampshire. You can read about how one purchase turned into a workshop in our story.
Grade A Heartwood Teak, Built to Last Generations
In the timber trade, Grade A teak refers to timber cut from the heartwood at the centre of a mature tree. It's the densest, closest-grained part of the timber, and the only part with the full natural oil and silica content that makes teak what it is.
That becomes really important, because those oils do the work other timbers need help with. They repel water, deter insects, and prevent rot from the inside, which is why our furniture needs no oil, no sealant, and no varnish, ever.
Grade B and C teak, by contrast, are mixed with sapwood (which comes from wood nearer the bark). It often contains knots and imperfections. Also, and simply put, it does not last nearly as long.
Every piece we make is also kiln dried to between 10 and 15% moisture before it's worked, which is the range suited to a British garden. Timber dried for a warmer climate will shrink once it's here, and it tends to show first around the joints.

Where Our Teak Comes From
All our teak is grown on Indonesian government-managed plantations, where felling is licensed, and every tree removed is replaced.
Our timber carries SVLK certification, Indonesia's mandatory legality standard, and is also covered by the FLEGT licensing agreement between Indonesia and the European Union. We work with the same small group of suppliers we've used for years, because consistency in teak comes from knowing exactly where it has grown.

How long does teak garden furniture last?
Our stunning Grade A heartwood teak garden furniture will last for decades outdoors with no treatment at all. Our founder's first bench has stood outside for over half a century and is still in daily use. Teak's natural oils and silica protect it from rot, moisture and insects without any intervention. Every piece we make carries a ten-year guarantee.
Does teak garden furniture need oiling?
No. Because Chic Teak furniture is made from Grade A heartwood, any oiling remains on the surface rather than absorbing into the timber. It attracts dust and creates a dull coating without any real benefit. Applying oils, preservatives or modern cleaning compounds also invalidates our guarantee. Mild soapy water and a soft brush, once or twice a year, is all that is needed.
Can teak garden furniture be left outside all year?
Yes. Teak can be left outdoors through a British winter with no covering or storage. Over time, sunlight softens the golden hue into an even silver-grey patina. This is a surface change only. The timber underneath retains its strength and its natural oil content.
Will the teak crack or split?
Correctly kiln dried teak should not split or shrink, particularly around the joints. All our timber is kiln dried to between 10 and 15% moisture, which is the range suited to the UK climate. Occasional checking, meaning small cracks on the end grain, can appear as the timber opens and closes its grain with the seasons. This is quite normal and does not affect the strength of the furniture.
What is the difference between Grade A and Grade B teak?
In the timber trade, Grade A teak is cut from the heartwood at the centre of a tree, 35 to 50 years old. As we only use the finest teak, it's knot-free, with a dense, close, curved grain and an even colour. Grade B and C teak is cut from the sapwood on the outer part of the tree. It is less stable and contains less natural oil and silica. It often has knots and varies more in colour and grain. If a price looks too good to be true, it will not be Grade A teak.

Do you deliver across the UK?
Delivery is free on orders over £250 to UK mainland postcodes. Some remote postcodes in England and Wales carry a surcharge. Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly are quoted individually. Orders under £250 are charged at £25. We normally deliver within 14 days, subject to stock, using our own two-man service.
